Recently, food waste has become an increasing problem among major cities in Indonesia. Food waste refers to food that has reached the stage of a final product and fit for consumption but still doesn’t get consumed for various reasons. Despite many beliefs that food waste comes mainly from households, food waste typically originates the most from retail. Places like restaurants from five star restaurants to simple street vendors, and households alike produce food waste every day. Those food waste include rice, vegetables, cakes, bread, meat, and all sorts of food whether they were discarded for neglect or expiration. Micro-businesses such as "warteg", a place that sells daily meals with very cheap prices, also produce food waste. For example, some customers did not finish their meal, so the restaurant just threw it away. If we take a look at some bigger businesses in the fast food industry, they are also facing the exact problem. This situation itself is very concerning as we all realize that the poor do not have access to maintain a daily, and proper, diet for their own.

Therefore, our team has come up with some solutions to the problem at hand. The solutions we came to find are very simple solutions. We will be taking a few steps for our first solution. The first solution that we thought about is to spread awareness of food waste to members of society. We will conduct some research and compile the information, put together the gathered information to be easily accessed by the society, then give the socialization to members of households in society. If we give the idea of being the initiative to lessen food waste and to sort the food themselves, the food that is still edible or consumable typically would have a lesser chance to end up in the bin.
But there might be foods that have gone bad or passed the expiration date, which we can not give to people or society anymore. One thing we can do is to recycle those food waste and turn it into pellets by using the food recycler. To start off the process, we will gather and collect all the waste into one place. We only take the food while we sort the packaging out. To recycle it, we blend all the food waste together and transform them into pellets or pills specially made to feed animals, especially fish.

These pellets can be sold to the catfish fishery. Catfish are widely known for needing high protein and vitamins in their diet in order to have premium quality and be harvest ready in a short amount of time to keep up with market demands. The pellets made from human food waste contain a lot of protein and vitamins needed by catfish.

Thank you very much for reading about our business idea and solution to the food waste problem
